Crimson, known as the bright red color of love, is very fitting for Valentine’s Day and perfect for the love story of Crimson and JD Thompson. Today, SinglesCruise.com, the United States’ largest organizer of hosted singles cruises, shared the touching story of how two of its clients found love. For the Thompsons of Bowie, Maryland, their onboard friendship blossomed during their 2014 cruise and the couple tied the knot, this year – one month prior to Valentine’s Day – in Key West, Florida. While a love connection isn’t the main purpose of its cruises, romances can develop from the variety of exclusive opportunities for SinglesCruise.com clients to meet and get to know like-minded travelers, including onboard cocktail parties and social mixers, speed-meeting games, dance lessons, shore excursions, and more.

“We are always so thrilled to hear about stories like Crimson and JD’s – solo travelers, who aren’t necessarily seeking love, unexpectedly find it on a SinglesCruise.com cruise. We strive to cultivate friendships among our guests that last a lifetime, and occasionally a love connection is made,” stated Sharon Concepcion, Vice President of Leisure Operations for SinglesCruise.com. “Through our onboard activities that are exclusive to our clients, such as mixers and cocktail receptions, theme parties, games, dance lessons, optional shore excursions, and more, there’s a chance to build quality bonds that stand the test of time. Meeting a potential love connection is just an added bonus – you never know when it will happen.”

The Thompsons met on a SinglesCruise.com cruise in 2014 sailing out of Port Canaveral, Florida. She was a first-time guest, and that particular sailing was JD’s second with SinglesCruise.com. They both attended the pre-cruise hotel happy hour the day before the ship embarked and sat next to one another, chatting the night away. The following day, the two happened to bump into each other while getting their room keys and walked to the ship together – they say the rest is history. Neither expected to fall in love, but sometimes “things just seem to happen.”

“We are two opposite peas in a pod. I’m an Army Public Affairs Supervisor while she’s an accountant. I’m adventurous and spontaneous while she’s calculative and organized,” said JD. “We certainly complement each other and push each other’s boundaries. But at the same time, we both really enjoy a lot of the same things and have the same goals for our future.”

The couple dated for two years, long distance, and when JD returned from an overseas deployment in November 2015, he proposed.

“Love happens when you are least expecting it. Like JD, I was not looking for love when I booked my cruise, and of course, I didn’t expect a long distance relationship would actually work out,” explained Crimson. “Our connection grew stronger as time went by. We wrote love letters to each other while JD was deployed. I would describe our love story as just getting started.”

Whether looking for love or friendship, SinglesCruise.com offers a variety of cruises – and several land-based vacations – specifically tailored for solo travelers. SinglesCruise.com offers a number of exclusive “members only” events throughout each sailing, so guests can become better acquainted with one another. Some of those perks and events include:

  • Friendly, experienced cruise hosts who lead special onboard events and ensure that all SinglesCruise.com guests feel welcome.
  • A complete schedule of exclusive activities including cocktail parties, group dining, theme nights, dance lessons, speed meeting, karaoke parties and more.
  • Specially-curated shore excursions that interest the single traveler, especially for their respective age groups.
  • Complimentary roommate matching. Upon request, SinglesCruise.com will assign guests a same-gender roommate to avoid the single supplement that solo cruisers typically have to pay.
  • Private online message boards and social media groups for singles to connect before their cruise and to keep friendships blooming after they return home.

“SinglesCruise.com is essentially the reason I was able to find a wonderful woman like Crimson. I’ve made several wonderful friends and had great experiences that I’ll remember for my life,” JD added. “But the best part is that I was able to meet my beautiful bride onboard a sailing – I will forever be thankful.”
